Tofurky Gobbles Up 100% Recycled Paperboard
Environmental concern drives the switchover to 100% recycled paperboard for the staff and consumers of Turtle Island Foods products, the makers of Tofurky.
About Turtle Island Foods
For the past 25 years, Turtle Island Foods has been producing a variety of soy products as alternatives to traditional meat products. Founded by a teacher-naturalist and based in Hood River, Oregon, the company is currently the second largest Tempeh producer in the country, distributing organic soy products all over the U.S. Some of these natural products include the famous Tofurky roast, SuperBurgers, Tofurky Deli Slices, Tofurky Sausages, Tempeh, and Tofurky Jurky.
Turtle Island Foods uses specific natural processes to manufacture its products. High quality ingredients, such as organic Tofu and Tempeh, are chosen over high tech powders or processed ingredients. In addition, a smokehouse and actual wood are used to smoke Turtle Island Foods Jurky and Deli slices.
Packaging Challenge
Turtle Island Foods delivers products that aim to support the well-being and vitality of the environment. To do so, the company not only uses organic, non-genetically modified ingredients, but also supports environmental groups and organizations. It seemed only appropriate with these practices in place, that Turtle Island Foods packaging also be made from environmentally friendly recycled material.
A Recycled Solution
About two years ago, the decision was made to convert all Turtle Island Foods packaging to reflect more consistently the policies and ideals of the company and its loyal customers. Packaging made of 100% recycled paperboard was the logical choice for Turtle Island Foods. The result was a complete switchover to recycled paperboard, as well as an emphasis on using less overall packaging.
100% Results
Today, all of Turtle Island Foods’ products are packaged in 100% recycled paperboard. As a result, Turtle Island Foods customers have expressed a deep appreciation for the environmentally friendly steps taken.
Package performance has also proven to be excellent, as the recycled material holds up incredibly well and is just as efficient as previously used materials. Additionally, the printing and graphics always come out sharp and bright. With over 3.5 million products packaged since the conversion to 100% recycled paperboard, the results have been outstanding in every aspect.
