The RPA-100% added 34 new licensees representing every segment of consumer product goods, including organic foods, snacks, software, and health and beauty products. These new licensees all began proudly displaying the RPA-100% symbol on their packaging in 2009. One of these new licensees commented that it is critical that they “communicate to consumers their commitment to making the best possible environmental choices when considering how their products will be packaged, displaying the symbol helps us do that.”

Today the RPA-100% symbol is displayed on hundreds of millions of packages at the retail level and seen by consumers every time they take a licensee’s product out of their pantry. We proudly include a list of all these licensees on our web site. Just go to the “Who’s Using It” tab and follow the link to see the full list.

The 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance (RPA-100%) recently announced that Fran McPoland has joined their team as an Environmental Advisor. Ms. McPoland has a long and distinguished career working with many organizations on environmental initiatives. Her career includes seven years as The Federal Environmental Executive working in the White House for President Clinton.

Over the last several years Ms. McPoland has been working on public policy issues on behalf of the Paper Recycling Coalition, a sister organization of the RPA-100%. As sustainability has become a prominent focus in the packaging industry, these two organizations have worked on many similar initiatives, and increased collaboration has become essential.

Paul Schutes, Executive Director of the RPA-100%, noted, “Fran has been providing critical support to the RPA-100% for more than a year, and it’s great to have her on the team working side-by-side with us as we continue to advance the economic and environmental benefits of 100% recycled paperboard.” Schutes added, “Fran has played a crucial role in coordinating, documenting and analyzing the data that Wal-Mart has required for their Packaging Scorecard.”

In just the first six months of 2008, The 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance (RPA-100%) has added 23 new licensees. The new licensees are both large and small companies from many different end use markets. This indicates that the positive message of 100% recycled paperboard to consumers is important regardless of the size of company or who the target consumer might be.

Paul Schutes, Executive Director of the RPA-100% said, “This influx of new licensees is an indication of how important consumer products goods companies think it is to communicate to consumers that they are using 100% recycled paperboard for the packaging of their products.”

“It is gratifying that companies are coming to realize the strength and value of converting their existing packaging to 100% recycled paperboard,” added Bob Mullen, Chairman of the Board for RPA-100%.

The 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance (RPA-100%) is pleased to announce that Graphic Packaging Corporation has joined the Recycled Paperboard Alliance.

Graphic Packaging operates three paper mills, 24 converting facilities and two machinery manufacturing facilities and employs approximately 7,700 people worldwide. Following the recently closed merger with Altivity Packaging, the company will now own and operate five 100% recycled paperboard mills. The addition of Graphic Packaging, a strong and dynamic company, the Alliance continues to grow and focus on providing value to RPA-100% licensees and end users of 100% recycled paperboard.

Bob Mullen, Chairman of the Board for RPA-100%, believes that having Graphic Packaging as part of the 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance is important because, “They are a significant force in the North American market, and their membership helps strengthen the voice of the RPA-100%.”

David Scheible, President and Chief Executive Officer of Graphic Packaging Corporation, agrees that this is a valuable partnership. “Our membership in the RPA-100% is a source of information and technical assistance for both our employees and customers,” he said. “The Alliance is also committed to growing the 100% recycled paperboard business in North America by promoting the environmental and economic benefits of CRB, which is ultimately good for the CRB industry and our shareholders.”
